The National Capital Region

a new LOW TAX jurisdiction to the benefit of all

How can Ottawa be called a National Capital when this city falls under the jurisdiction of Ontario? A notion of Upper and Lower Canada stuck in the 19th century.

As if there are only two provinces, Quebec and Ontario. Well, what about the rest?

And even in the case of Quebec, Gatineau is not officially part of this 'capital' designation. In practical terms, it's just Ontario's 2nd largest city with some special designations, that is all.

There are a reasons lots of people feel alienation from its capital. It isn't really a capital, not does it feel like one, it feels like just another Ontario city, which gets forgotten whenever Ontario elects a conservative government.

Any normal confederation or federation of states has a designated Federal District. In the USA, it is Washington DC, in Mexico it is CDMX / Mexico City District, in Brazil it is a Federal District, and so on.

Let's talk about TAXES

A district the size of Ottawa-Gatineau would no longer be a province, no province ... no provincial tax. And while some taxes might apply, they will be lower than the current ones in Ontario and much lower than the ones in Quebec

The way I envision this district is a low-tax district, ridden with the usual level of provincial taxes and probably most in line with Alberta in that sense, low-income tax, no PST/HST or QST.

A Federal district run by the Federal Government with a joint mayorship of the two major cities.

A united transportation system

A united front to the development of the region

An exemplary jurisdiction, done from scratch into a clean slate encompassing the best ideas and attributes of each province that will put the area as front and center of Canada.
